My 1987 Porsche 928 S4, 5 speed
Maintenance History Since 1987
Thanks to the very good records of last two owners of this car (purchased for very nice sum of $63,000) - all maintenance records have been retained.
Here is a little history on this Porsche....
I am the third owner of this fine car. First owner had it till 1999. The previous owner had the
car
for a short period of time and found that he had never driven it.
Here
is the summary of the maintenance performed on this car. Previous
owner
drove the car till mileage of 46,500. The following are applicable
Option Codes: C02, P37, 018, 139, 302, 340, 474, 481, and 533 (see
Table
below for definitions).
Total cost: over $750. New exhaust flange gaskets.
New O2 sensor (after market Bosch
from
928Intl).
Used Mark's
Pilot Bearing Pull-out Tool to take that bearing from hell out!
Total cost: parts only: over $900. Replaced engine mounts, Replaced & repacked rear axle boots,
Installed new Aluminum under tray,
installed new front wheel well front
shrouds Total cost: labor: $800; parts: $745; total:
$1,545. Tire Rack
price for all four: $780. Nology wires and Silverstone plugs; Thermally insulated fuel rails with HI temp components (details); Cleaned fuel injectors; Short shifter installed (still getting use to it); New distributor cups and rotors installed; New parts installed under the intake manifold: Idle Stabilizer,
"floppy" idle control
valve and knock sensors; Intake manifold, valve covers, thermostat housing, water inlet elbow
and control cables
bracket painted (details); Polyurethane sway bar bushings (not a significant reduction in roll); Car seems to accelerate much better, with recognizable improved
acceleration in 2nd gear. Total cost; parts: over $500; labor: over $2500, total: $3000 Shifting mechanism cap and rear joint replaced. New
steering wheel
from 928 Specialist installed. New analog clock installed. Redline NS transaxle
oil used for better shifting (this car was purchased w/o LSD option!!).
Pod restored by Just Dashes (nobody else can do this pod - I know since I
had to get new used one to get it done right); great results but pricy (I
got it for $400, but now it is $600!!!)
End result:
Total cost: parts: over $1900, labor: $1900; Total: $3800.
Timing Belt re-tensioned approximately 7
years after being installed (very low mileage per year) Mobil 1 replaced with Torco
(commercial synthetics in California were castrated by State of the key
ingredients reducing cylinder wear). Radiator flushed at 70 miles Timing belt tension indication
hardware wire termination failed (erroneous Timing Belt light) and was
replaced approximately at 70 K miles. This is the cost of doing timing belt (and
the rest) if you neglect this car for 14 years!
